Ai is consuming business software, rewriting the economics of subscriptions, and raising a question we thought we’d settled thirty years ago: Who should own the computer?
Think about it.
We’ve spent three decades moving our businesses into someone else’s computers. We called it the cloud, celebrated the freedom from server rooms, and gradually accepted monthly subscriptions as the cost of doing business.
Microsoft gets paid every month. So does Salesforce. SAP and ServiceNow have their place in the corporate budget. AWS and Azure collect their share of the infrastructure expense. Even at home, Netflix reminds us that access has become a recurring financial obligation.
We’ve become comfortable renting everything.
Then Ai arrived and started consuming the very applications we’ve spent decades purchasing.
And that changes the calculation.
When Ai Eats the Application
Consider Salesforce.
